NMC Dental Mission: A Healthy Smile for Every Child

OSM Thome — Nmc-dental-program

We recently held a dental checkup and cleaning event for underprivileged children of Bahay Tuluyan, Leveriza Manila, supported by NMC dentists and staff volunteers. This initiative focused on improving dental hygiene for children with limited access to healthcare.

The Importance of Dental Care Children in disadvantaged areas often suffer from poor dental health due to malnutrition and lack of access to proper care. NMC’s mission aimed to address these issues by providing dental checkups, cleanings, and hygiene education.

Event Highlights
  • Over 25 children, ages 4 to 12, benefited from a 2x a week dental health program in the months of September and October.
  • Professional dentists provided comprehensive check-ups and cleanings, including plaque removal and fluoride treatments.
  • Children and their families were educated on proper brushing techniques and received dental care kits.

Addressing Malnutrition and Oral Health Malnutrition can negatively impact dental development, causing delayed tooth growth, weak enamel, and gum problems. In addition to dental care, families were informed about the importance of a balanced diet for optimal oral health.

Community Response and Future Plans The event was well received, with parents and Bahay Tuluyan volunteers expressing appreciation for the free dental services.

Positive feedback from one parent, such as “We’re so thankful for the free dental cleaning for our kids, as we can’t afford it,” and Jesselle’s (one of the beneficiaries) testimonial, “It didn’t hurt at all! Dra. Marge cleaned and brushed our teeth and explained that fluoride helps strengthen teeth and prevent cavities,” underscored the program’s effectiveness.

Based on its success, NMC intends to offer regular dental check-ups and workshops to ensure that all children, regardless of their circumstances, have access to quality dental care. Together, we’re building a healthier, happier community—one smile at a time.
