A recycling fish was installed the last week at the Armonia Park in the community of Agios Tychonas, by the coast, by OSM Cyprus. The President of the Agios Tychonas Community, Charalambos Ioannou was the guest of honour in the event, and many of the OSM Cyprus office staff were also present. The inauguration ceremony was performed by the Agios Tychonas Community President and OSM Cyprus’s Managing Director.
OSM Cyprus’s Managing Director, Peter Burkal stated “our love for the environment has driven us to arrange the installation of this recycling fish here at the Armonia Park. Plastic and drinks cartons can now be disposed in the fish. Reducing the usage of plastic as well as plastic recycling is more than necessary nowadays, and we believe it will help in reducing environmental pollution”.
Additionally, P. Burkal added “Environmental pollution is more critical than ever as it affects and downgrades fauna and is also responsible for many diseases affecting humans. The wide usage of plastic leads to uncontrolled refusal and has contributed to the pollution of the environment. Plastic waste kills up to one million seabirds, 100.000 sea animals including sea turtles and countless fish every year. Plastic doesn’t break down like other organic waste but turns into microplastics which is then easily mistaken by fish as plankton. The consumption of plastics by fish, caught for food for humans, allows plastics to travel up to our food chain”.
We strongly believe that OSM’s Recycling Fish will promote recycling amongst people visiting the park and the area around it and long-term results will be positive for our environment.
