The delivery ceremony of the NS Explorer, the second shuttle tanker project for the Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), marked the successful completion of a significant maritime endeavour. This grand event took place at the DSIC shipyard in Dalian on 19th July 2024, where the NS Explorer was meticulously constructed under the expert supervision of OSM THOME.

The ambitious four-year project included the creation of two shuttle tankers, NS Pioneer, and NS Explorer. The delivery ceremony was graced by representatives from CNOOC, OSM THOME, NSS, DNV, and various other distinguished delegates, reflecting the collaborative spirit of this monumental project.

The NS Explorer, a 155,000  DWT vessel, is equipped with state-of-the-art Kongsberg thrusters and the advanced MacGregor BLS system. It stands as one of the largest ships ever supervised and delivered by the OSM THOME site team, led by Nicholas Varghese. This achievement underscores the team’s commitment to excellence and innovation in shipbuilding.

During the ceremony, the OSM New Build Director extended heartfelt congratulations to the entire team. He expressed sincere gratitude to NSS for their unwavering trust and to the DSIC shipyard for their dedication to quality and professionalism throughout the project.

Following the ceremony, the NS Explorer is set to undergo Petrobras acceptance trials in Dalian, China. Upon successful completion, the vessel will embark on its journey to Brazil, where it will serve PETROBRAS, further enhancing its operational capabilities.

This event not only marks a significant milestone for CNOOC and OSM THOME but also highlights the successful collaboration and high standards upheld by all parties involved in the project.
